Farming Simulator 22 forestry tips and tricks

If traditional ranching or farming doesn’t do it for you, it might be time for you to consider forestry in Farming Simulator 22. While some aspects of in-game forestry take a bit of nuance, we’ve rounded up all of our favorite tips and tricks below so you can start planting your own industrial forest.

Grow trees in Farming Simulator 22

There are 13 types of trees in Farming Simulator 22. On average, trees take two and a half years to reach full size. This does not include poplars which take only 16 months to reach their full height. However, we do not recommend that you plant poplar trees, because even if they grow quickly, they can only be used for wood chips and poplar bales, which significantly reduces their selling price.

The trees available are:

  • Poplar
  • Pine
  • umbrella pine
  • Spruce
  • Birch
  • Oak
  • willow
  • Maple
  • American elm
  • pagoda dogwood
  • Shagbark hickory
  • Cypress
  • downy serviceberry

If you are looking for a tree that has the highest yield of all, you will want to plant American elms. They generally produce about three times as much usable wood as the other trees on this list.

Planting trees in Farming Simulator 22

To plant trees in Farming Simulator 22, you must first go to the store and buy saplings in the Pallets tab. The palettes tab is below the objects.

Once you have your trees, you will also need to get a Damcon PL-75 (found in the forestry equipment section) and a tractor capable of pulling it. Trees do not need a plowed field, water or fertilizer. Just load the trees, head where you want and plant the trees. After that, wait the required time before cutting them.

We recommend planting trees in areas that for one reason or another are unsuitable for other types of fields. This way you can still make money from your other fields while using space that other crops cannot handle.

Once your trees are fully grown, you can cut them down with a chainsaw. We recommend the Rottne H21D for felling trees.

Sell wood

After cutting down your trees, head to the Carpentry Shop if you have one. The carpentry shop will turn your raw wood into furniture that sells for around $3,000 per pallet. Although it costs $60,000 to get the carpentry shop, it’s a worthwhile investment, especially because the return on investment will open up the possibility of creating a sawmill (which costs $100,000).
