God of War: Ragnarok – How to Break Green Metal

You first encounter shiny green metal at the start of God of War: Ragnarok and will interact with it for dozens of hours after you first break it. Getting your hands on the ability to smash green metal isn’t difficult at all – in fact, it’s free and it’s impossible to advance the story without it.

In this guide, we’ll show you exactly where you get the Sonic Arrows green metal smashing tool and give you a brief primer on how to use it later in the game.

How to Get Sonic Arrows

After completing the opening section of God of War: Ragnarok in Midgard, you’ll come to Svartalfheim in search of Tyr, the Norse god of war. When you reach the town past the Aurvangar Wetlands, you’ll see your first instance of green metal preventing you from looting a few chests on the Nidavellir wharf.

Initially, you can’t get through the barrier, but turn around and head a bit further into town until you encounter Sindri the Dwarf. He’ll say he’s got something for you, and even if you can ignore him for a moment, you won’t be able to go any further without talking to him.

Do so, and a cutscene will play where he holds Atreus’ bow with sonic arrows, which you can then aim at the large green metal blocking a sewer tunnel.

All it takes now to smash the green metal is to aim for it and command Atreus to fire. The metal will warp and implode, clearing the way for everything it previously blocked.

You will find that simple green metal puzzles become much more complex as the game progresses. You will often need to find different vantage points or travel to distant parts of an area to use the Sonic Arrows. Your fellow NPCs will of course be happy to remind you nauseously of what to do, where and when until you get the hang of it.

Despite this and other minor annoyances, God of War: Ragnarok is a fantastic and massive game, which means we’ll be covering plenty more in the coming days. Stay tuned to our guides hub for more.
